art-life+vol.11 Toshiyuki Kajioka: “The Birth Canal – Waves towards the Future”

published: Apr 23,2009

SPIRAL
Ink and pencils – these materials bring us an image that is black in color. Clearly
however
it cannot be said that black is ""a single color""
as the colors of ink differ between manufacturing areas or eras and the blackness of pencils varies with their hardness or make.

author: Tomohiro MASUDA

24/JAN/2009-28/FEB/2009

Under the knees
there is a space that forces us to kneel down and get on all fours in order to go forward...The action of getting down on all fours reminds us of crawling along into a secret base in the woods
made when we were children.

Doro Doro, Doron - Asian Contemporary Art Featuring the Theme of Alien World

author: Satoshi KOGANEZAWA

published: Mar 31,2009

14/MAR/2009-10/MAY/2009
Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art
I feel that this exhibition only serves as a group show that features a set of rising artists who have been featured in various magazines
such as ""Bijutsu-techo""
which does not exactly match the exhibition theme of ""alien world"" . Why?

Artist File 2009

author: Tomohiro MASUDA

published: Mar 27,2009

04/MAR/2009-06/MAY/2009
The National Art Center
Tokyo
Artist File 2009 has no unified theme
which is said to be its main characteristic; however
my impression is loose
the same or looser than the last exhibition. But why were these particular nine artists selected when such criteria could be met by anyone?

Miwa YANAGI: my grandmothers

author: Takeshi HIRATA

published: Mar 26,2009

07/MAR/2009-10/MAY/2009
Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography
We share much time with our mothers and fathers
and this provides us with many memories and experiences. However
we share little or no time with our ""grandmothers"" until they approach the end of their lives. The time they have lived is much longer than us due to the length of time between our respective births.

Makoto OFUNE: Principle

Ofune is an outstanding artist with spatial composition capability. Without the black frame a size larger than the artwork
the space would have been extremely monotonous. Every time an artwork was found it expanded the existing space.

Three months have passed since his last solo-exhibition. Although the interval has been short
we see progress that four out of the six artworks constitute a pair of paintings composed of a duo of a masked and an unmasked woman.

""Natsunosuke Mise Exhibition: Summer in Winter"" held at The Sato Museum of Art. There was exhibited the ""Staring at Gap"" series

The original Japanese title of ""The unrestricted field of view"" is Juppo-shiya. Juppo means every direction including up-and-down. This word well describes the atmosphere of his pictures.

03/NOV/2009-21/DEC/2009
Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art
Review to the museum exhibition entitled ""Lu Lu Lu Landscape - How I see the world around me -"". What is ""to see scenery"" in this condition? Does my arbitrary look-around from a marathon telecast also count as ""seeing scenery""? An exhibition under the theme of seeing scenery was held outside Tokyo.

Mise’s one of the most tipical motiefs
entitled ""J"" - the details have not always been clear since then
but a crown on the head
a body in armor
and a sword on the left side are obvious from the silhouette. This article discusses how he treats this motief this time.

Chida's motief in his painting often has faces not drawn as a visible face or cruelly deformed. What do the people wearing a ""mask"" like face implicate?

""window - scape"" (2008) by Susumu Harada is a photo work. He ""look pictures"" of this other scenery
