Shiseido Gallery was opened in Ginza, Tokyo in 1919 and renovated in the current Tokyo Ginza Shiseido building in 2001. It is a corporate art gallery managed by Shiseido Co., Ltd., that, with its 5m height-ceiling, has the most space of any of the galleries in the Ginza district. It is also the oldest gallery in existence in Japan, and played the role as a new artists' gateway to success in prewar days, supporting artists' activity through projects such as "Tshubaki-kai" and "Gendai Kogei-ten" after the war. Since 1990, Shiseido Gallery has focused on contemporary art, and plans and holds many project exhibitions which value the coetaneous by introducing internationally known young artists as well as Asian art and media art.
