By gathering various elements, Kato creates one single image. Things that everyone is familiar with from their childhood, such as character from animation and candy packaging, coloring book, cross, ribbon, star, circle… Kato gathers all these international symbols with multiple implications, and builds up a variety of motifs of human or animal, based on her personal experience such as childbirth. Sometimes flat, sometimes coarse, every single piece of her works is created appropriately and uniquely. Kato has captured public attention by her sole exhibition in Emerging Directors Art Fair “Ultra 002″ held at SPIRAL in 2009. In 2010 winning Tanaka Chieko Award of Shinjuku Ophthalmologist Gallery at YOUNG ARTISTS JAPAN Vol.3, Okada Akira Award at via art 2010, Fujimura Ryuji Award, and in 2011 being accepted for Wonder Seed 2011, Kato has been building her career steadily. In this exhibition, she is showing more than ten pieces of her works including the Portrait-one of her representative works and a spectacular work close to 2 meters themed on skeleton. A new generation artist attracting much attention- Nao Kato, we hope you will take this opportunity to find the emergence of new talent.
