Completed his study on Japanese painting at Graduate School of Art, Kyoto University of Art and Design, Kajioka has been pursuing his deep, thorough darkness while expanding the accumulated technique of Japanese painting. Rich tone of darkness expressed on his paintings is created through the repetitive process of drawing numerous lines, ripples and stagnant traced on the flow of river. Although silently at first glance, one will notice that each painting depicts our different respects to the water: calmness, wildness, comfort and awe. Kajioka’s paintings explore the sensibility of animism, which even underlies the constitution of our mind today.

The work group in which black stream lines are faintly shown on a jet-black screen: the lines are so beautiful that these seem to reflect the light though being black lines. This is an exhibition in which we comfortably feel both the scary that only the epidermal can be seen, and the scary that even every corner of the epidermal can be seen at the same time.
