Opened in February o2009 as a gallery within a residential space, located in an apartment house in Sangenjaya, Tokyo. The gallery space was then separated from the residence and become independent in Ebisu in October 2010. Since then, it has applied its focus on the characteristics of a “a waiting room”, while still maintaining the “homey atmosphere” that was their feature in their previous space.

“Waitingroom” introduces exhibitions of young domestic and overseas artists. Along with a variety of events that were difficult to hold in their previous space, (such as workshops), talk shows and performances are also now scheduled to be held. Moreover, artist goods including artists’ postcards, art books, Zine, and stickers, etc are for sale in the gallery.

The gallery name, “waitingroom” (i. e., ‘waiting rooms’), expresses the owners’ wish to offer young artists searching for success a place and a process to go forth into the world through a variety encounters. Let’s go and encounter the moment with them!

Among the represented artists are Yutaka Kato, Koichiro Takesue, Hiroshi Yoshida, Yunmee Kyong, Shoko Morita, Hisami Tanaka, Akinori Shimodaira, and Kaai Tsuji.
