Opened in front of Yokohama Port in Yamashita Park, Yokohama, in 1975, the Kanagawa Prefectural Gallery has five exhibition rooms and its total floor space of 300m²makes it the largest in Kanagawa prefecture., On its first floor and basement level you can find the Kanagawa Kenmin Hall, well-known as a concert hall for opera and classical music. The gallery is generally a rental gallery with a wide range of exhibitions inluding painting, sculpture, craft, photography, printed work, books, and India ink paintings. This gallery also holds irregular enthusiastic project exhibitions of veteran or emerging artists by putting its high ceiling and the wide floorspace to good use. There have been many note-worthy exhibitions thus far, including Koichi Ebizuka, Mitsunori Kurashige, Chiharu Shiota, and Takehito Koganezawa’s “Everyday Life Another Space”. As there is music hall right next to the gallery music-art related projects, such as "Art Complex", have been organized in various attempts to to bridge the gap between art, music, and dance.
