In this solo exhibition of Fuyuji, which has the theme of light, the best exhibit is the large painting “birthday” (acrylic on canvas, 2910×2910mm, 2009) hung in the center of the gallery. Since this work is combined of four square panels, each 3333×3333mm in size, it is not possible to see the whole piece from inside the gallery; it can only be seen from the window of the adjoining cafe. It is a collage of various shapes seeming to resemble an eyeball, internal organs, and a brain, etc., drawn against a black background, and it is striking that these motifs, each with a vivid color, are shrunk into one image and then diffused at the same time. It is also surprising that the vast work has been assembled so perfectly, although only two pieces or less could be arranged at the same time in the artist's atelier. The small pieces are hung, evenly spaced, on another wall, and they appear impressively gorgeous, like blinking stars, in the large exhibition space.
