Editor's Note

By showing the collection of Ryutaro Takahashi, a psychiatrist known as one of Japan's best contemporary art collectors, this exhibition, following the ones in Kagoshima and Sapporo, attempts to represent one remarkable aspect of Japanese contemporary art between the 90s and the present. We cannot deny that the size and the importance of the scale of the collection deserve a special mention. However, even though "Neoteny" means the neoteny applied to these works, the word is not a concept representing the whole contemporary art scene of Japan. We should not forget that there are galleries besides the ones exhibited here, collectors besides him exist, and an artist is one who creates a work. Without a critical view, this exhibition would represent only an indiscreet admiration for a particular sense of values.
