Opened in March of 1996, and then relocated to the present site in June of 2004. “The Third” of the gallery name (The Third Gallery Aya) has 3 implications; firstly the gallery started business at the “Osaka Ekimae Daisan Building (‘Daisan’ meaning “third” in Japanese), secondly since taking photography is their major category of work, they handle media art which is thought to be the “third” category of image art, and finally they aim to produce the “third” (new) flow of art which does not follow traditional concepts. Based on these three policies, The Third Gallery Aya introduces contemporary artwork based on photographs and image works with realistic power.
Moreover, The Third Gallery Aya aims to be a new kind of gallery which has the power to support artists in becoming known internationally by encouraging other artists to cooperate actively with them.
