Solo exhibition of Mizuko Yamada, an artist who creates jewellery and objet using metalwork techniques such as chasing and hammering. Yamada creates jewellery, seeking to produce tactile form using hard metal materials and tactile pleasure that comes through visually without having to touch the item. Through 20 years of creating jewellery pieces, she has also become well-versed in the history of jewellery. Yamada has held many exhibitions in countries such as Great Britain, the U.S.A. and South Korea, and she also gives lectures on jewellery. In Jewellery for thinking about Jewellery, Yamada pursues the expression of jewellery as a device that prominently shows its positive and negative sides. For instance, in a form suggestive of armour on first look, she lets us imagine the various meanings that a piece of jewellery connotes. In this exhibition, Yamada's latest collection of work Jewellery for thinking about Jewellery, which was shown at the International Craft Biennale in South Korea after showing at the Bilston Craft Gallery, Jersey Arts Centre, Art Gallery, Brewery Arts and Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery in Great Britain between 2008 and 2009, will be shown as well as her recent work.
