‘Focusing on a new generation in Tokyo’ is an annual cosponsored project hold by eight contemporary art galleries centering around Ginza and Kyobashi. Each gallery has chosen a young artist and holds a solo exhibition at the same time.

This time Gallery K has chosen an artist Waga Midori.
Waga is drawn to ancient monuments not only because they stimulate her imagination about the distant past but also because they connect her with her own memories deep within. The meaning of emotions and events buried in the layers of time combined with the memories of society and the stories of history told by the remains, help us to see where we are today. At the same time, however, a void in the mind that cannot be filled and sense of discomfort with what is being said emerge. Waga expresses this sense of ambivalence through the traditional technique of marble sculpture and the original subject matter of ‘stone pillars commemorating imaginary events.’
