After 4 years of various artwork in Tokyo, Virginie now turns towards Japanese culture through strong influence and passion. Her first exhibit will be her very own unique “IKEBANA” style. This will consist of a rose “bouquet”made as a clay model. Following on from that her next piece of artwork was driven by inspiration from“Yasukuni Jinja Hounou Sumo”. “Yasukuni Jinja Hounou Sumo” is a large shrine that contains an arena where events are held all year round. She used to visit this shrine ever spring to watch sumo wrestling matches. Due to the season sakura (cherry blossom) can be seen culminating around the shrine, and it is here that the combination of the brute force and intensity of the sumo wrestlers combined with the gentle and peaceful cherry blossom around the shrine gave Virginie the inspiration for her “sumo” artwork.
Haru Komoda will be exhibiting “Shunga”(erotic form of Edo period colour prints which generally express everyday life in Japan). He will also present his own original cultural “Characters” with contain influence from Europe as another segment of his artwork.
Those two artists have completely different sources of inspiration as well as different methods of expression.
And now their unique Japonisme visions are brought to reality for the world to see.
