"work no.8, for the relationship between the liberty and indecorum of information" Hirakawa (b. 1987 in Saitama prefectural) is graduating from Oil Painting course, Department of Painting, Faculty of Art and Design at TAMA ART UNIVERSITY this March. While he was in university, he held several solo exhibitions and attended many group exhibitions. In 2010, he held a solo exhibition at MARUKI GALLERY for THE HIROSHIMA PANELS in Saitama. Through this exhibition, he questioned the meaning of "Peace" that we lead everyday life filled with the information of conflicts and terrorisms in the world through media. This time, he titled the exhibition "The Power of FOX" and will present art works dealing with the authenticity of mass media or theme of shifting through the information. "FOX", appearing in the title, signifies both animals and FOX Broadcasting Company (FBC) in the United States. FBC is well known as strongest contender as they broadcast pro-Republican. On the other hand, fox, the animals, symbolize the wild. However, as a result of selective breeding under the supervision of Lyudmila Trut, the new foxes not only have become tamer, but more dog-like as well. This experiment shows the behavior of tame can be selected by spontaneously or artificially. The Foxes (animals) Hirakawa has continuously drawn indicate us, people nowadays and represent the proposition whether we can keep our wildness. Hirakawa develops a critical feeling the slowness of thought arise from the information artificially adopted. In this exhibition, he questions how we deal with media today. * The text provided by Bambinart Gallery. PEriod: March 18 - April 10, 2011 |
