Opened in 1994 in Otsuka, Tokyo; relocated to Shinkawa (2003-2005), then Kiyosumi in November 2005. The Kyoto branch was opened in November of 2008, "Taka Ishii Gallery Photography / Film" in February of 2011.
Since the opening exhibition of “Larry Clark,” the gallery has been introducing international photographers, often being taken in the context of contemporary art. It has organized Japan’s first exhibitions of Doug Aitken, Thomas Demand, as well as solo-exhibitions of Japanese top photographers: for example, Nobuyoshi Araki, Daido Moriyama, and Naoya Hatakeyama.
While Taka Ishii has been known as renowned gallery of art photography, new emerging painters, such as, Kyoko Murase, and Hiroe Saeki are among the represented artists.
