Exhibition by Bettina Hvidevold Hystad and Simon Torssell Lerin who announce the result of of a three month stay for the Art-in-residence program.

The exhibition Kyoto Dinner Experiments is the result of a three month long process where we have met, shared cooking experiences and had dinners with people living in Kyoto. Japan and Scandinavia both have a strong tradition using fish but in very different ways, this became an interesting starting point for our dinners. By inviting the participants to our home and to cook with us we shared our experiences and exchanged our recipes. For the exhibition we asked the participants to use what they learned from our first dinner together and bring a new Japanese-Scandinavian hybrid fish dish. Through the dinners we wanted to create new meetings and collaborations that otherwise wouldn’ t occur. In the process the participants were challenged and their approach to this decided the outcome, making the project and the exhibition a dynamic collaboration.

Bettina Hvidevold Hystad (Norway) and Simon Torssell Lerin (Sweden) was both born in 1985. Bettina studied Fine Art at Bergen National Academy of the Arts and Glasgow School of Art. Simon studied Fine Art at Bergen National Academy of Arts and at the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. In their artistic practice they try to utilize their location, the city and the citizens as much as possible. By inviting local people to join them in the creation of their artworks and making them a crucial part of the process they want to shift focus away from the artist and instead focus on the audience making them a greater influence on the art experience. Together they have had solo exhibitions at Organhaus Art Space, Chongqing (2010) and 943 Studio, Kunming (2010).Separate they have had solo exhibitions and been a part of group exhibitions in Norway, Sweden, France, China, Japan, USA, Scotland, Germany and Luxembourg.
