Opened in Sanjo Kobashi in Kyoto in 1969, at first, "CUBIC" gallery ITEZA was a place for avant garde? art expression such as movie screenings, and performances. It exhibited paintings and sculptures in the 1970s and currently chiefly introduces contemporary art by young artists. It was one of the gallery’s features that sound and natural light are intercepted since the exhibition room is in the basement. It is thus the best environment for installations of minute, experimental works. The gallery had an excellent reputation for installations using lights, sound art, and image work. Here, experimental and vanguard works can be enjoyed. Among the artists who were exhibited in the past are, Taro Yamamoto, Shonen Shojo Kagaku Club, Takeshi Sasaoka, Jun Matsuyama, Kohei Watahiki, Gendai Mijutsu Nitohei, Nobuaki Itoh, Mikie Kane, Ryohei Nioka, Satoshi Asada, Masahiko Okamoto, and others. "CUBIC" gallery ITEZA was closed on May 20, 2011. Address: Fujita Building B1, Sanjo Kobashi Higashi-Iru, Nakagyo-ku, Kyoto |
