Mizuma Art Gallery was opened in 1994 in the Aoyama area, Tokyo; relocated to Nakameguro in 2002, and then opened a new space in Ichigaya Tamachi in November of 2009. Among the represented artists are, Makoto Aida, Tomoko Konoike, and many Japanese artists who remix contemporary subjects with traditional styles of representation, especially, Akino Kondoh, Hisashi Tenmyoya, Akira Yamaguci, Ai Yamaguci. New gallery space, ‘Mizuma Action’ was opened in 2005 to introduce new, emerging Japanese artists. Mizuma has also focused on other Asian artists, especially, those from Vietnam, such as Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba. Through active participation in international art fairs and the opening of ‘Mizuma and One Gallery’ in Beijing in April 2008, the gallery promotes Japanese and Asian contemporary art world-wide.
