Opened in September1962 in Kyoto as an art gallery specialized in contemporary art, and relocated January 1985, March 2000, and then in July 2007 to its current location, “galerie 16” has held many important exhibitions that have left a mark in the history of the contemporary art. It is a long-established gallery which represents the Kyoto and Kansai districts. It has kept seeking an expression of the age and introduces many artists from the emerging to veterans. As seen in the exhibition series “BACK AND FORTH” which tries to reevaluate the works of the 1960’s and 1970's from the present aspect as well as trying to find the future, and the exhibition project “Series 80’s” to verify the art in the 1980's by paintings, “galerie 16” holds enthusiastic special exhibitions that looks at post-war art. They also issue of exhibition catalogs and leaflets that are records of the age. Among the represented artists are Keiichi Ikemizu, Satoru Shoji, Koji Sagawa, Kodai Nakahara, Eriko Hidaka, Keisuke Yamaguchi, Tomoko Kashiki, Shuko Terada, Haruka Fukushima, and Masako_Yasuki.
