Kohdai DENO “Dark matter” 2013 H728×W1030mm matt medium, acrylic and ink on panel

Kohdai DENO’s solo show “Wizard’s Flower Mantis” will open in CASHI on September 6 (Friday) to October 27 (Sunday). Kohdai DENO is a young rookie artist who has begun showing his work since last year and attracted a lot of attention. “100 degrees Fahrenheit vol. 3” held in CASHI in 2012 was his debut exhibition and ULTRA005 held in SPIRAL was a solo show of his work. “Group Show VI” in 2013 was a venue for his work to be on display to further increase its attractiveness. DENO draws his work with the motifs of insects (mantis in particular), cosmos, fantastic girls and animals by largely using ink and crow quill for cartoons, and at first glance, a minute description of his work feels to the extent of something magical and never fails to attract viewers’ attention. Deno uses the most common materials such as corrugated cardboards and envelopes as support media for his screen. The screen is painted in dots and ultra minute grain so completely without any space that it makes itself cosmic and brings a feeling of floating. Insect’s wings, fine particles in the air and minute motifs like human cells are crammed into Deno’s work. “Princess Hitomi” a mysterious character who is free to come and go among them could also look like a guide who connects one work with another. In this exhibition, his first solo show, his new and old works from small to large-size pieces will be on display at once. We hope you will come by and see Deno’s work you associate with a feeling you have when you take a look at a microscope slide.
