We are pleased to present a solo exhibition of works by Jiro Takamatsu “Perspective – Space in Two Dimensions” from June 15, 2013 at Yumiko Chiba Associates viewing room shinjuku.

Over 40 years, Jiro Takamatsu has produced works with a common theme of the relations between objects and their meaning, seeing objects, as well as absence of objects. His series, “Point”, “Shadow”, “Oneness”, and “Compound”, to which he gave names, varied their forms, giving expression to his thoughts.

Yumiko Chiba Associates has been featuring Takamatsu’s solo exhibition every year to introduce the various development of his thoughts, as an attempt to seek a new perspective on his works. This year we have focused on “Perspective” and “Space in Two Dimensions” from his varied series, where his questioning of “absence” got into approaching to “space”, then will feature a relief of “Perspective” together with its drawings. In those drawing, all his thoughts when forming works are directly expressed. In the midst of growing interest in Japanese modern art in the ’70s as well as Jiro Takamatsu in and out of Japan, this exhibition will be valuable in exploring his thoughts.

The first solo exhibition of Jiro Takamatsu in Britain. Important works from his early period, including “Shadow” series will be featured.
