Kobo and APS are pleased to announce Susanna Niederer’s solo exhibition, which will be held at four venues within the Okuno Building, from May 20 to June 1, 2013.

Since 2006, the Swiss artist Susanna Niederer has held a total of ten exhibitions in Japan: five solo exhibitions (including the two at APS) and five group exhibitions. In 2011, she was selected for the Iino Building Art Project (other artists: Leandro Erlich, Motohiko Odani, Kiyomichi Shibuya, Kazuya Yamamoto, Goro Hirata). For this project, she designed the entire 29-meter roof garden in the building that faces Hibiya Park in the heart of Tokyo. In 2012, she held a solo show at Gallery Jin (housed in 3331 Arts Chiyoda) and a large-scale exhibition at Galerie Maison 44 (Basel), in collaboration with Wilfried Maria Danner’s musical compositions.

The three installations and two-dimensional works in this exhibition all derived from her exploration into the fundamental theme of “how people can have a deeper understanding of one another.” The essential elements she was able to capture as a result of that quest have been embedded within her consistent motif of the “ellipse” (“absence,” “lack,” “gap”). We sincerely hope that visitors experience and enjoy the graceful world of Susanna Niederer.
