CASHI will hold Sachiko Miki’s solo exhibition “The grains floating around the soft orb” from March 1 to April 28. Miki is a sculptor who creates her work under the theme of “emotion”. This exhibition will present her existing work made from FRP, as well as her new pieces of work which successfully show a stronger presence by using different materials. Her work is characterized by smooth texture like pottery or water drops. People will get an impression that touching her work might make it burst or melt. The theme of her work is “tears,” the emotion which is the most close and mysterious to her. In recent years, she is expanding the theme of her work, shifting her interest to overall “emotion”. The elusive emotions of those who are featured in Miki’s work are reflected in their eyes with multi-layered colors. Our daily lives go by with a series of ordinary moments. Amid that, people we meet, the air in town, gusty wind and drizzling rain all contain various elements, shaping history on the earth. We feel delighted at times and feel low at other times, and as such we are leading our everyday lives to be controlled by our unidentified “emotions” all the time. When we see her work, we are exposed to appallingly raw sensations. This might be a feeling of nostalgia or yearning that comes from the fact that we are not supposed to live in a simple way as we actually are. Sachiko Miki herself will attend the reception party on March 1, the first day of the exhibition. It would be great if you would drop by to see new pieces of her work, more dynamic objets d’art with stronger vitality, and would let your friends know about the exhibition.
