“A Vacant Beholder” Installation view Photo by Nozomu ISHIMURA

CASHI will present “A Vacant Beholder,” a solo exhibition of Shotaro Hokari, from February 1 to February 24.
Hokari is a young sculptor who creates sculptures with materials such as FRP and plaster. His work is characterized by the use of matte black.
He uses living organisms such as animals and humans as his motif, and reveals their organicity with a smooth and elegant texture. “Signs of presence” and “a black hazy existence” that the artist himself senses in his every day life. His somewhat spiritual senses will strongly appear as “fluctuation” when viewers face with his artwork. Viewers will be able to feel his transboundary senses up close.
In this solo exhibition that breaks his past 4 years of silence, Hokari embarked on 2-dimensional artworks, as an extension of sculpture work. The exhibition space will be constructed with his new works as centerpieces.
This exhibition is two composition. The first part is 1st to 10th Feb., second part 14th to 24th Feb. 2012.
On February 1, the first day of Hokari Shotaro’s solo exhibition “A Vacant Beholder,” Hokari himself will attend the reception party at the gallery. We very much would like to invite you to visit the gallery to witness Hokari’s new artworks that have even more successfully extracted and captured his world view than ever before.
*Gallery opens on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Other days is appointment only. Please call or e-mail.
