Super World on Paper : Norimitsu Kokubo and Hironobu Matsumoto
Events
Published: November 29 2012

Drawing a dream world on paper is something that everybody has tried at least once and it is also an activity with a long tradition in art history. The two artists explore the potential of this approach in a casual way. To Matsumoto Hironobu, who likes maps, direction and accuracy are extremely important. While repeating a small motif, and exquisitely weaving together blank spaces, he fills his pictures with delicate colors. On the other hand, Kokubo Norimitsu, who has a fondness for brilliant coloring, boldly develops a world to rival the colors. He depicts buildings and streets from every side, but oddly there is nothing incongruous about this. And despite the almost total absence of people, there is a sense of liveliness. Both artists were born in the ‘90s. Please have a look at their contrasting “super worlds on paper.”
