Carolina Raquel Antich's paintings predominantly depict children—pre-pubertal figures such as thin boys playing soldiers, or a portrait of a girl whose expression betrays the awakening of her ego. Her works encapsulate the multi-faceted and readily wavering emotions of childhood, portraying obstinacy and cruelty as well as innocence and naivety, all captured with a delicate touch on canvases with large blank spaces. Viewing Antich's paintings, adults sometimes gain the impression that they are re-encountering themselves as children, accessing deeply buried, far-away memories of their own childhoods.

"One Day" is the artist's third solo exhibition at Art-U room, presenting 11 works on canvas and 2 drawings—all new works. Subjects include a boy running from a swarm of bees, perhaps provoked by some sort of mischief, and the bright eyes of a wild animal staring out of the dark, as if watching it's prey. These works all hint at a worldview that is somehow allegorical. The paintings at first appear simple and sober, but if you open your mind to the faint voices that seem to emerge from the canvas, they draw you in to a lively, luxuriant story world.

Born in Rosario, Argentina in 1970, Carolina Raquel Antich currently works in Venice, Italy, where she has her studio. As a 2005 Italian Youth Art Prize finalist, she exhibited at the 51st Venice Biennale the same year. Since then she has exhibited internationally, particularly in Europe and North America, including shows in New York, Milan, and London.
