APS is pleased to announce its 23rd exhibition in the series “a piece of work” by Jun Azumatei. This exhibition is a part of the project “Face to Face: Jun Azumatei / Hildegard Spielhofer,” which will be held from October 7 to 22, 2011. The two artists will also create a show together at PLATFORM STUDIO housed on the same floor, from October 17 to 22.

Jun Azumatei has received grants from the Overseas Study program funded by the Pola Art Foundation Japan (2009), the Japanese Government Overseas Study Program for Artists (2010), and the Nomura Foundation (2011). He has lived and worked in Basel since 2009. Since the end of the 1990s, Azumatei has actively shown his works at galleries and museums nationally and internationally. Based on his leitmotif of “memory and documentation,” he documents his own memories onto each photo he takes by repeatedly overlaying paint in an effort to bury the gap between his memory and the image in the photo. Through this process, he questions our perspectives that waver within the overflow of information as we try to pursue our own truth. This is the first time for his solo exhibition to be held in Japan in three years.

*Two-Man Show “Azumatei & Spielhofer” will also be held from the second week of the show at PLATFORM STUDIO.
From October 17 (Mon.) to 22 (Sat.)
