Gallery Strenger is pleased to announce the second exhibition with Etiye Dimma Poulsen, a Danish sculptor with Ethiopian birth. She now lives in Belgium . Born in Ethiopia in 1968, Poulsen spent her childhood in east Africa in Tanzania and Kenya until settled in Denmark, 1982. After she studied art in school, she moved to France in 1991, and then, met clay... started working on sculptures. The statue is structured with an iron mesh, covered with clay, and the color is added before burning. After the exhibition in January 2008 in Tokyo, Poulsenʼ s had a show in Denmark and Paris consistently. This year, we will be showing her well known peculiar crack clay sculptures, and brand new bronze sculptures and water color paintings to add new taste to the show. We will be introducing wondering faces of “Moon Watchers” in both clay and bronze. Even though we donʼ t see the moon that they are watching but we can see and feel that it is really there from the expressions of the sculptures. The bronze is a new material for her work style and is painted by a chemical reaction called oxidation. The patina bites itself onto the metal. Also, some water color paintings are included. Always attracted with people from her childhood to and their surroundings, Etiye Poulsen continued to explore and expand the possibility of expressing her feeling for the people into her works. Reception for the artist: Saturday, April 4, 2009 6 - 8pm * The text was provided by Gallery Strenger.
