An enterprise being undertaken to weave the story of Contemporary Art History in Tokyo while at the same time studying the activities and the art collections of SAGACHO EXHIBIT SPACE, known as an "alternative space" which was formerly located in the Koto-Ku Shokuryo Building (ex-rice market facility) up until the year 2000.

Sagacho Archives' opening showcase presents Shinro Ohtake. In this showcase a painting and a film that was being shot by Ohtake during the time of his legendary 1987 exhibition, along with "Mr. Peanut," a series of paintings dating from the end of the 1970's, will be on view in the space along with a recent drawing.

Shinro Ohtake Shinro Ohtake was born in Tokyo in 1955. His multi-layered works in collage, painting and sculpture have had a profound influence on developments in Japanese contemporary art. Recent exhibitions include “New Universe on the Road” at the Fukuoka Art Museum and Hiroshima City Museum of Contemporary Art in 2007, and “Shinro Ohtake Zen-Kei Retrospective: 1955-2006,” at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Tokyo, in 2006. A then-complete set of the artist's 64 mixed-media scrapbooks (1977-2006) was presented at the 8th Gwangju Biennale in 2010, “10,000 Lives,” concurrent to an exhibition of the most recent scrapbook, #65, 2005-10, at Take Ninagawa Gallery, Tokyo.
