Because of the development of the advanced internet technology, we all have opportunities to easily become “artists” to express whatever comes up in mind in the virtual world. Ryoichi Hamano (b.1977) samples images from the internet and break them into simple lines and dots by using graphic applications and reconstruct them on to canvas. It is an interpretation of the information not as flatly digitalized images but three-dimensional objects with thickness of paints, existing in the reality.

There are going to be five new paintings in formats of orthodox paintings such as nude and landscape for his first solo exhibition at Project Room in MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY. Please find Hamano’s challenge to describe the value of physically “looking” at painting in this world where images are saturated.
