Photo exhibition by a Scottish photographer born in 1962, Jesper Haynes. Bicycle stories, five girls I met in New York by Jesper Haynes The girls in these pictures appeared like visions to me in the street. Each image began with a spontaneous encounter while biking through New York, which is something I love to do.Sometimes I glimpsed them momentarily in the corner of my eye.I would slam on the brakes and go over and explain I was a photographer and give them my number. And wait for them to call.I was attracted to the sense that these were girls who had stepped outside of their conventional lives and fearlessly immersed themselves in the madness of New York. It is a place where they feel free enough, and anonymous enough, to re-invent themselves.Though these pictures capture something of the individuals I have portrayed, they also reflect my own passions, fascinations and obsessions. Perhaps through these pictures of others, I am also describing myself. * The text provided by Time Out Café & Diner. Period: April 15 - 30, 2011 |
