Opened in Kawara-cho, Kyoto, in 2004 as an experimental art space managed by the Department of Art Studies and Produce at the Kyoto University of Art and Design, this is a place for experiments in new art. The staff and young artists colaborate to consider how to produce the mechanisms and systems that will help art function in society.

It functions not only as a gallery to produce exhibitions, but also as a place for students to organize various projects, such as the setting up and running of a planning office to produce a project. Activities also include workshops, musical events, talk shows, and publications.

Kyoto has a history of experimental art organizations leading art. This “Art project room ARTZONE” is also one of these which students manage independently. Their youthful curiosity and courage will produce various communications and actions, creating a place where the possibility of a new art can be witnessed.
