When Ohata takes photographs of people, she usually takes their back or just the silhouette, not their faces. Therefore, what kind of faces people are making is up to our imagination. That means, her works lead us to view the work from the opposite side. This process will reflect our mind unconsciously.

Ohata’s theme in this exhibition is “water.” Water is a matter itself, and at the same time, it acts as a mirror. On the surface of calm and quiet pool, we can see the reflections of landscapes outside the window and the ceiling of the building. Water, which we usually look down, shows what is above us. Ohata’s photographs include this paradoxical point of view. When we see her photographs, we imagine what is truly underneath the object. When this happens, “water” in her photograph should act as a metaphor of our mind.

>Blue is the prevailing color of her photograph. Objects dyed in blue sympathize with the photographer and creates a new landscape. Ohata says, “I release a shutter when I hear a beautiful sound.” It seems like, objects are approaching her by the sound, not the vision. To imagine the beautiful sounds from her photographs, is also up to our imagination.
