Yoshimasa Tsuchiya (b.1977) completed his MA at Conservation Department of Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 2002. He is engaged to the traditional Buddha statue carving technique to extract the authentic beauty of the tree and keep its essence in his unusual animals such as dreamy fawn, mythical centaur and legendary animal in China, qilin. Every creature breathes fresh and noble air as if there were embodiments of the tree that remind us of the native spirits of our nation. For this time, Tsuchiya is going to introduce the world of his “private myth” in the space of MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY. “I think that mythology is a series of allegorical stories referring the origin of a group of people. Regardless the historical facts, mythologies are always taken over from generation to generation so that we maintain our connections to each other. And I believe that it even exists in our private relationships.” Tsuchiya shares his identity through the elegant creatures and invite us to a journey of discovering our own private myths.
