Opened in Osaka in 1981, and also as "kunst-bau|tokyo" in Nihonbashi, Tokyo in 2008, Gallery Yamaguchi Kunst-Bau is well known as a long-established, contemporary art gallery that first introduced Donald Judd, Tadaaki Kuwayama and Dan Flavin to Japan.

It is devoted to introducing young artists, both domestic and international, and also to cooperating with museums to produce exhibitions and exhibition catalogues. Moreover, it has contributed to sponsoring "Art Camp in Kunst-Bau" since 2005. This event, which started in 2002, introduces mainly students from art universities in the Kansai district.

The "kunst-bau|tokyo" in Tokyo has been closed since December of 2010.
