Human’s first communication tool was a song, not a language. Neanderthals are believed to have used their vocal cords to communicate, producing a flow of high notes. Primeval communication tools were voices that echoed over lands and valleys. That was how, with no digital sounds, humans conveyed their feelings.

Now people use marks; ♡ !! and pictograms; :) to express their subtle feelings. Ways of communication have changed with time.

But something never changes over years. On this earth, there’s no place that has no song. We sing at an alien place, with total strangers. Even if we don’t understand the language, we feel somehow connected.

To sing is a natural behavior to express one’s feelings. And to fly has always been human’s dream. In this work, the deed to sing unites the present with the past while flying. A balloon with a live human face sings as it floats.

In search of novelty, we encounter something primordial. I want to fly it into an unnamed space and witness the birth of the unknown.

[ People and songs ] Havrhannes :Armenian patriotic song, Don il :Korean love song, Charly: Ivorian nursery rhymes, Kaoru : Japanese song, American musical song, Karina : Russian poems, Marc :French nursery rhymes, Eiko : Japanese ballad, Maria josé : Spanish Lorca’s poems, Emma : French nursery rhymes
- Miwa Nishimura

Emotion is the most important element to think about the existence of human. Miwa Nishimura has been created various experimental art works in order to make it clear. She has shown her world by using the photography. She held the solo exhibition in Tokyo Photo 2010 and won the prize of CANON New Cosmos of Photography, Honorable Mention. This time she will try the new expression by video installation using balloons in collaboration with Sony Computer Science Laboratories, Inc.

The balloon is carrying a projector and a speaker. The newest experimental technology makes it fly for many hours independently. While flying in the gallery the balloon will show the film Miwa Nishimura made. In that film you would see the scene people who have various backgrounds sing their own favorite songs. The ways of their lives, the emotions expressed by singing and her feelings for those...The balloon will fly carrying those things.
