Gallery Shirakawa

Opened in 1983 in Oike-dori, Kyoto, and relocated to Gion Kawara-cho in 1999, Gallery Shirakawa introduces the work of various genres such as oil painting, prints, glass, and solids, etc not only introducing Japanese, but also overseas, artists of the contemporary art. It has introduced several top-level well-known artists such as John Cage, Sol LeWitt, Richard Diebenkorn, Anish Kapoor, Jenny Holzer, and Antony Mark David Gormley so far, and some of the works are owned to a public museum of Japan. Moreover, this is the only gallery in Japan that has been introducing all the print works of the sculptor, Kei Funakoshi for over 20 years now.

Special and permanent exhibitions are held by using the two spaces on the first and second floors with the concept of "Living with Art" in the gallery. Moreover, a state-of-the-art glass works for a living space is on display in the permanent exhibition space on the first floor.

Among the represented artists are Katsura Funakoshi, Keisuke Yamamoto, Atsuya Tominaga, Takao Inoue, Yukio Fukasawa, Kenji Kitagawa, Masahito Katayama, Yutaka Yoshinaga, Niyoko Ikuta, Kurumi Ishikawa, Miyabi Katayama, Noriko Saito, Fumiko Takeda, Jyun Takayasu, Masanori Mimasu, Masami Hayashi, Junko Komatsu, Koji Ninomiya, Kumazou Yoshimura, Maiko Maeda, Masaru Matsubara, John Cage, Sam Francis, Robert Mangold, Sol LeWitt, Anish Kapoor and Jose Maria Cecilia.
