Jaakko Mattila will be showing new paintings made in Japan.

‘My idea for the residency is to explore Japanese art materials, contemporary art and traditional culture. I did not bring any materials from Finland so I could get the maximum effect of working here. I have enjoyed using hand-ground ink for the very first time and will definitely take traditional goathair brushes with me to Finland. I work in a variety of mediums but at Youkobo I have focused on watercolour and ink works on paper. The exhibition presents the best of ‘made in Japan.’
