Last year, Yuu Takehara won the Honorable Mention of CANON New Cosmos of Photography during on the register of Tohoku University of Art & Design (TUAD). Now she belongs to the postgraduate course of TUAD.

The process of her execution is very unique. She combines two photographs by putting one on the other. In addition, she scratches the surface of this photograph by the needle to complete it.
This way of her creation may seem to be violent in a sense but gives birth to the photograph as a very pictorial artwork which is full of the strong life force.

When I pull the two different materials close to me, they conflict and begin to insist their own individuality. I can find something new of a life there. The way of this creation may be violent but I believe this conflict or encounter must be inevitable; it is something beyond an accident.
I also keep in mind that I am a woman. I think a woman is a joint or a part of the cycle of life. I shall try to give a shape to the energy coming from the circulation of life and nature which women have been connecting for a long time.

The impulse to create a new life she has reminds us the existence of woman naturally. You can feel the primitive energy from her artworks with a woman combining all sorts of creatures since both have power to live or exist. The energy is under the surface of her photographs sometimes calmly, sometimes furiously.

Please come to see and feel her cosmos which spurs our primitive impulse.
