Opened in August 2008 in Kuse, Kyoto, as an artist-run space managed by Yohei Izumi, Shingo Tanaka, and Minoru Morikawa. In the gallery established as an annex there is an atelier that can be visited. Here, there are regularly-held exhibitions with profound contents, covering wide genres and styles. With exhibitions with uniquely unusual styles, structure, and ways of viewing every time, this is a rare gallery that only artists can bring to fruition in the spirit of “Do it yourself” and experimental intention. The artists exhibited in the past have been Minoru Morikawa, Yu Kawakita, Shingo Tanaka, and Yohei Izumi.

“Studio90” has an independent gallery space besides its atelier space, which is unlike the usual open atelier where the atelier is open to the public only for a certain period. The closeness between the atelier and gallery is remarkable considering the differences between each place for creating and living. Creating or living with art corresponds to one’s spirit. It is like the sale of agricultural products brought directly from farm producers, where the aim is to preserve freshness and quality. These are things you can see only at studio90.
