Several flowers/plants are combined by using bands within a four meter stage. The first theme of "Botanical Sculpture" series is "Assemblage". It has massiveness, but the rhythmical arrangement is also fun. I want to focus on one plant that stands out prominently in this artwork and plays an important role: the Chinese cabbage.

This is not usually a target of appreciation, but as a cooking ingredient, this vegetable is probably the most familiar to us among the materials used but; its presence is projected more strongly when its purpose as a cooking ingredient is ignored. Seeing the entire artwork, almost all of the materials are based on green, despite the shading. So imagine if Chinese cabbage based on white were not here. As the cabbages are lined up horizontally, the impression might be considered heavy and flat. It is called a sculpture, but the artist paid the closest attention not only to the composition but also to the color balance, and thus it produces a rhythmical harmony from end to end like a picture scroll, which leads us to conclude that this is also quite picturesque. I add one note that his admirer, flower artist Yukio Nakagawa, created an artwork named "Bruce" (1951), which used only Chinese cabbage.
