The comic series “Heugemono” of Yoshihiro Yamada in ‘Morning’ (Kodansha, since 2005) is a cartoon which depicts the culture and the sense of beauty at the Warring States Period, by Oribe Furuta of the general as the hero who was also known as a master of tea ceremony. The commemoration exhibition for the publication on the market is held in a designer’s hotel, CLASKA. We may recollect such an exhibition to display the original picture or the copy with the artist’s notes and the historical interpretation to each as often seen in an exhibition of cartoon. However, this exhibition is reformative to exhibit objects and ceramic works of 15 young ceramic artists. It is quite comparative from the usual exhibition related with comic above mentioned, the exhibition held by an comic writer such as Takehiko Inoue (in The Ueno Royal Museum, in 2008), or the exhibition to display the contemporary art work inspired by “Doraemon” of Fujiko F Fujio (the exhibition “THE Doraemon” in SOGO MUSEUM OF ART, in 2003). The “Heugete, Kurasuka” does not depend on either the original comic or the character in it. Though it is a commemoration exhibition for the publication on the market, we could appreciate the wider attempt to the contemporary art and look forward to the future activity.
