sal was born in Hyogo in 1970, and started studying drawing paintings by himself at the age of twenty-six. Until about 2007, he showed his works by means of ‘live painting’ as well as through using flyers and exhibitions in music industry-related events.
After 2008, sal changed his style. He changed his own aspect on creation and arrived at his present method. This is one in which he draws on canvas with a pencil making an image and then adding colors to it. He is interested in the mysteriousness of things just being there as motifs to the work. He is also interested in the fact that recognition of these things changes hour by hour every day, and that the society also follows these changes. He tries to express these interests of his in his work.
Facing to a canvas and aiming for the concept above mentioned, sal begins to draw from the one point he spontaneously wants to draw, and expands the drawing until he satisfied that he has completely drawn all he wanted to express. The canvas is thus repeatedly expanded regardless of the original size and shape. The size is fixed when the work including the theme has been completed. That’s the reason why many of his works are oversized. sal still contain elements of live painting: he erases remainders of failed lines or paint leaving blanks that become parts of the work mass when he perceives that all he wanted to draw is drawn.
sal has been creating a series of portraits depicting his family and other people in his recent works. However, this exhibition shows four masterpieces chiefly from the “Cyborg Series”. This series was started after he changed his aspect on creating paintings. It aims at drawing a portrait of a person in the future. Please enjoy the works.

“I’m interested in that a thing only ‘exists’ there and that there is always a thing to it. I’m also interested in the recognition that our real world changes hour by hour every day and the society is changed according to this recognition as well, even if it is misunderstood that it is not easy to feel this existence.”
