Guardian Garden was opened by Recruit Co.,Ltd. in December 1990 in Spain-zaka in Shibuya, Tokyo, to provide a chance and a place of expression for young artists. It relocated to Ginza in May 1993. The Guardian Garden's activities center on public advertisement exhibitions as a competition gallery focusing on graphics, photography, plays, and image art. It also often holds play festivals of the public advertisement system in a hall outside the gallery. Since there are many artists who have begun their careers as professional artists after starting in this gallery, it is acknowledged as a place where vigorous expression by talented young artists-in-the-making can be seen. Among the projects that the Guardian Garden holds are:

a public advertisement exhibition on photography "Guardian Garden" (formerly "Hito-tsubo-ten",

"The Second Stage at GG", a series which introduces the activities of "Guardian Garden" graduates,

"Photo Documentary NIPPON", a public advertisement exhibition on photography to present new Japanese images in the 21st century,

"Asian Photography" which introduces emerging young Asian photographers,

an exhibition series "Time Tunnel" which highlights the earlier young days of a famous artist, and,

"CREATION Project" (formerly the “Year End Charity Exhibition”) in which works produced by artists as volunteer using familiar materials are exhibited and sold.
