"whisper from a faraway place" 2009 oil on canvas 116.6×80.5cm, courtesy of the artist and YOKOI FINE ART copy right(c) Maki FUKUDA

What Maki Fukuda has been painting is the space reigned over by silence.
A slight sing that she can feel only in the silence is hidden in her canvas. When I am in the quiet room, I can hear the various but faint sounds from outside of the window.
If the room is not quiet, I can't hear the sound of the wind, the voice of someone far away and the sound of outside through the window.
But what I can feel in the quiet room is not only the sound outside.
From the deserted room where there is nothing and seems to be just after moving, and a chair which was left, I can feel a sign and voices of a person who had lived there as a lingering scent. A story that has been made secretly in a room appears when the moment the room just for only living changes its atmosphere. She shuts the story that she caught in an instant up in her world of works. I have no intention of copying reality.
What I want to draw is the world that I can feel from the moment of the reality.
And each moment that catches my heart is got together into the world that I imagine with shine. Her works themselves have weight and silence and we can feel that her imagination has been condensed in has not been put out in the open air for a long time.
She creates the world as if we hesitated breathing there. * The text provided by YOKOI FINE ART.
