Yasuo Kuniyoshi (1921); collection of the museum

The Museum of Modern Art, Wakayama boasts its collection of some 10,000 works of oil paintings, Japanese paintings, prints and sculptures from Japan and abroad, dating from the 1800s up to today, focusing on the artists associated with Wakayama prefecture. The Art Encyclopedia series introduce the breadth and attractiveness of the collection from various points of view. Following the well-received exhibition ‘Who is This Person?’ last year, the 8th in the series ‘Where am I?’ explores the lands, places and spaces depicted in about 300 works. We would like you to enjoy art more deeply, exploring the houses, streets, cities, and nature, as well as the real world and the dream world, heaven and hell, and the earth and as far away as the cosmos depicted in the works. * Part of the exhibits will be altered during the exhibition.
