Opened in 2005 in Nara, Gallery OUT of PLACE also opened the Tokyo branch “TOKIO OUT of PLACE” in November, 2009 in Hiroo, Tokyo. It holds an exhibition every month and a half, and under the keywords “radical & merging” it introduces contemporary artists whose work displays novelty yet has a universal appeal. As the gallery name recollects the book 'OUT OF PLACE' by Edward W. Said, it introduces fresh work with an aspect of "Impropriety". Among the represented artsts are a photographer from Okinawa - Mao Ishikawa, an English photographer - Christopher Taylor, an artist using a whiteout - Makoto Morimura, Mineo Sakata, Mayumi Terada, Taku Aramasa, Shunji Momo, Kazutaka Fujita, Yu Hirai, Lucien Hervé, Bernard Plossu, Daniel Baudraz, Françoise Nuñez, and Julia Baier.
