Tokyo School of Arts (TSA 1982-2000) is an institute which embodied the educational philosophy of Giju Saito (1904-2001) a pioneer of Japanese abstract art. ‘Zeroist’ is a group established by volunteers who took over the group exhibition 'Expressed Present' held by graduates of TSA. ‘Zeroist’ is associated with the title of Giju Saito's work in 1950.
The subtitle of this exhibition is 'Xeroist'. It was supposed to be ‘Zeroist’ at first as meaning zero but ‘Z’ is used as a symbol to glorify war in certain places at this moment, so this time only, ‘X’ is used instead to signify the opposition towards war. As the opposite of tyranny against humanity, it expresses the need to confront others through the power of imagination and expression.
Artists : Uruno Takao, Kawamura Masayuki, Koga Tobu, Kojima Noboru, John Fumio Sugaya
