Wood print, from exhibition works

Kaori Ogishima consistently depicts dogs, the animals that she is most familiar with. To look at a dog and to be emotionally involved with her/him is to project the artist’s own inner world and emotions onto her/him, and to question herself about how she is living in the present.
This exhibition features a selection of woodcut works. The contrast between black and white, the carving marks, the unevenness of the printing and the expression of the Japanese paper creates the beauty appeared by the coincidence of these overlapping elements. The works reveal the artist’s feelings of insecurity and impatience caused by this changing times and the world around her, yet and at the same time she is also excited by the prospect of an unimaginable future.
