2019 Exhibition View

‘Trees in the forest seek the sunlight as if they have a strong will to do so competing with the surrounding trees to form a forest. Plants with their power of nature give us richness of life. As I work with cardboard paper made from such plants I try to assimilate myself into the forest feeling the network of plants, animals and micro-organisms in nature.’

For many years Kenji Yokoya has been exploring how to transform the material as cardboard into an exquisite special form. The wavey forms inside the cardboard are transformed into an outer surface, which are then combined to create new corrugated surface to build a forest of square pillars-each of them interferes with each other to form shadows that invite us into meditative moments.
