The Tale of the Heike 1: Shin-Chunagon Tomomori 1996 Monotype 75.3x105.8cm

Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to present KANO Mitsuo's solo exhibition entitled The Tale of the Heike. The Tale of the Heike is a collection of stories concerning the Taira clan and its prosperity and fall written ca. the 13th century. Kano's series of monotype prints made in 1996 will be the main exhibits of this show.

Born in 1933, Kano taught himself techniques of intaglio and started to show his works in the 50s. In the 80s, he started to show brightly colored oil paintings along with various print works including metal prints and color intaglio. Kano's recent exhibitions in Center for Contemporary Graphic Art (2017, Fukushima) and the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura (2013, Kanagawa) are highly acclaimed.
